This annual two-day event includes kids & family activities, cultural dances, musical performance, karaoke contest, and over 100 booths featuring arts & crafts, local business, community organizations and much more!

Megan Quinn Bachman presents “Surviving Peak Oil, Thriving in Community” from the International Conference on Peak Oil and Climate Change: Paths to Sustainability.

Megan Quinn Bachman is the Outreach Director of Community Service and has been writing and speaking on peak oil since 2003. She serves as Master of Ceremonies for the U.S. Conferences on Peak Oil and Community Solutions in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Quinn Bachman’s articles on peak oil appeared in Communities, Permaculture Activist, WellBeing, Vermont Commons, Energy Bulletin and Global Public Media. She co-wrote and co-produced the documentary, The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil. Quinn Bachman earned a degree in Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs from Miami University and studied abroad at the University of Havana in Cuba.

The International Conference on Peak Oil and Climate Change: Paths to Sustainability explores the root cause of rising gas prices, global warming, biodiversity loss and other indicators of global unsustainability. Participants then focus on the concepts of sustainability and the associated value systems and cultural visions. A spectrum of breakout seminar presentations led by professionals and experts help businesses, governments, individuals and communities move towards a vision of local cultures of sustainability.

The International Conference on Peak Oil and Climate Change: Paths to Sustainability is hosted by Local Future, a nonprofit community education organization founded by educator Aaron Wissner.

First meeting of Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement (VOICE) Oct. 5, 2008.

Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement (VOICE) is a broad-based organization that works to organize the communities of Northern Virginia across all religious, racial, ethnic, and class lines for the public good. VOICEs primary goal is to develop local leadership and organized power to fight for social justice. VOICE strives to hold both public and private power holders accountable for their public responsibilities.

VOICE is multi-issue. The issues VOICE works on come from within its institutions, from the concerns of the people. VOICE crosses neighborhood, racial, religious, and class lines to find common ground and act on our faith and democratic values.

VOICE is affiliated with the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) and is inspired by the 65 other IAF-affiliated organizations working in cities and metropolitan areas across the country. (See: www.industrialareasfoundation.org)

Elizabeth is a counselor and a marriage and family specialist. She has a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University. She earned a B.A. degree in Psychology from The University of South Florida. Mrs. Mahaney also attended the University of Tampa as a transient student and earned a minor in marketing with concentrations in athletics and personal growth. Elizabeth has managed to work with several different types of clients and organizations including; Private Practice with Dr. Jean Mulloy, Success for Kids and Families- a community based program, Kathy’s Place- a center for grieving children and families leading both adult and children’s groups, and at the Children’s Cancer Center. Elizabeth is also on the board of directors for The Tampa Bay Association for Women Psychotherapists and affiliated with several different professional organizations. She is Certified as a Master Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner and has a Ph.D in Clinical Hypnosis and is affiliated with The National Board of Professional and Ethical Standards.

A Fighting Chance – Glenn Goodson Sports Community Organization

A Fighting Chance is a program that improves the thinking processes of at-risk youths through weekly group sessions with a cognitive trainer and physical training. Participants will engage in rigorous physical activity with a goal of entering in a certified boxing event. Groups of 10 participants are treated on an eight-week cycle, providing The Glenn Goodson Sports Community Organization an opportunity to impact the lives of 60 juveniles annually.

Services are held at A1 Boxing & Fitness in Aurora, Colorado.

Why is service important to Yale? Yale alumni around the world will participate in the first-ever global Yale Day of Service on May 16, 2009. Coordinated by the Association of Yale Alumni, the day will bring thousands of Yale alumni and their families and friends of all ages together to volunteer in their local communities. Service projects are organized through local Yale Clubs and other Yale-based groups and range from serving meals at soup kitchens, to construction with Habitat for Humanity, to tutoring, to park cleanups and more. MEET ERICA Erica Michelle Sobol is a Los Angeles original, born and raised in the city. After high school, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in the performing arts. There Erica earned a BA in dance-theater from Barnard College at Columbia University and began her professional dance training at Broadway Dance Center, working most often under Wes Veldink, David Marquez, Michele Assaf, and Rhapsody James. She also began her teaching career in New York, serving as a faculty member at Manhattan’s Peridance. She is thrilled to be back home in Los Angeles now, continuing to create and to train. Here, Erica has worked with so many brilliant choreographers, including but not limited to: Gil Duldulao, Kevin Maher, Victor Rojas, Craig Hollamon, Anthony Garza, Matt Cady, and Tucker Barkley. Erica has contributed works to *** Pride NYC, Traffic, the Broadway Dance Center Performance Outlet, Carnival: a choreographer’s ball (in New York and Los Angeles), the EDGE Annual Show, and many many others…
She has worked as a master instructor at several dance studios all over the world, including BDC in Tokyo, Pineapple in London, Harmonic in Paris, and Skip on Guam. And she is on faculty at the Edge Performing Arts Center. Erica Michelle Sobol is the founder and artistic director of collidEdance, an ever-evolving professional dance company dedicated to blurring the line between dance and theater. The company’s Brooklyn, NY debut in 2004 received rave reviews and enjoyed five straight soldout performances. collidE is now based in Los Angeles. And thriving! From it’s West Coast debut, in Hollywood in 2008, collidE continues to bring packed houses down!Erica feels lucky, so lucky, to be inspired everyday.
