what does professional organizations mean?

February 32010

okay so i have to write a brief description/presentation for school about the proffesional organizations or trade unions my future career supports…
problem is i dont know wat that means. can someone plzzz explain to me??

it is like a organization that supports and helps a certain group of workers to make sure that the group recieves enough pay, gets enough days off, and neogociates with the company….

Example

If you are a writer working for Jay Leno, and your union is trying to get you better wages and more days off but the company doesn’t let you then you go on a strike with your union, in order to get you the best work enviroment and pay

another example is all of the Los Angelos police officers belong to the LA Police Union which helps that group of officers get better work and make sure everything is fare

A professional organization is an organization which caters to a particular trade. For instance, for nurses in New York, there’s the New York State Nurses’ Assocation (http://www.nysna.org/).

Professional organizations typically offer career development programs for their members. They are good to participate in because they allow you to network with others in your field. They also usually have some sort of publication that helps keep you up to date on current trends.

They are bodies established in terms of the laws of the country (termed statutory bodies) to fulfil certain functions, mostly to regulate or control certain movements, service departments, service providers, regulatory bodies, associations, etc. They all have to have a Constitution and in terms of its constitution, they elect democratically, management committees that takes the decisions. It starts with a general Meeting at which such Constitution is proposed, amended and accepted.

The constitution contains a set of guideline by which such association or body operates, takes its decisions, spend its funds, and elect its committees.

Such Constitutions contain their objectives and the powers vested in them by the Government of the day.

All proposals are voted on, and the majority vote decides the outcome, termed a resolution.

Trade Union represent employees in the work place when disputes arise. Employer Organizations are the opposite to Trade Unions and they, in turn, represent Employers in the work place when disputes arise.

Such disputes are resolved in arbitration by statutory bodies such as those above. Such bodies have powers of execution similar to courts of law, but only in issues related to employer/employee relationships.
