such as Scouting, Campfire Girls and Boys. and other groups, and what do you feel you have learned or gained from the experience?

I’m not sure if there is an increase/decrease in interest in these groups. I do know that for those who are participants, many enjoy it and most gain something from it. These organizations provide children an opportunity to socialize and learn to work with others. The leaders also often offer the children another positive adult/child relationship, especially if the children come from families that are lacking in that area. I participated in Girl Scouts and loved it. I had alot of friends in the group, we raised money for a trip by helping bag food at a grocery store, and we did alot of fun art projects. 20 years later I still remember the closing song we sang after every meeting!

Some of the responses I’ve seen on here indicate that there’s always an ulterior motive involved when conservatives donate/give to charities. Recently, there was some research published that showed conservatives and conservative states are a bit more giving than are people in liberal states. Matter of fact, some of the most conservative states with lower per-capita incomes gave considerably a higher percentage of their income as compared to liberals. I know for a fact that I give more than a lot of my liberal friends do who are more financially able to give than I am. By the way, I give from the heart and don’t expect anything in return. Also, I don’t use my donations as a tax write-off neither.

How would I go about doing this? I am educated and am a detailed writer. I am a FT Accountant, this is something for part-time work.

You most definitely can earn money writing business proposals for individuals or organizations. I have done this for years. I developed my own template which I modify and use for each unique project that I take on. However, I now turn down most requests nowadays because I am pursuing other business interests — but the market is there.

To get started, you will need some satisfied customers. Somebody mentioned grant writing — which is a good place to start. You might contact local organizations and volunteer your services in exchange for a reference and testimonial.

Then put up a web site, hang out your shingle and start taking orders. That’s what I did.

I should add that I don’t know if you can get enough assignments to support yourself 100%. I have always done the proposal writing thing as a sideline.

Another approach is to ask clients to take a stab at writing their own proposal — then you take it and revise as necessary. This saves them money and gives you a good starting point. You will discover that the most difficult component of proposal writing is getting customers to give you the informationj you need to do a decent job for them.

i want to start my own organization that helps the declining population of tigers. i dont know how to go about it and there arent really any tiger programs in Mississippi. can anyone give me some ideas on how i could start a program in mississippi? just let me know if you know anything about starting your own organization. thanks so much!

Starting a non-profit organization can be quite complex. It may be worthwhile for you to spend a few years working with other organizations that have similar goals. Consider volunteering for groups like WWF, Sierra Club, GreenPeace, or the Save the Tigers Fund. You can meet like-minded people, learn how organizations operate, learn about fundraising, management, publicity, and identifying the most cost-effective ways to meet your group’s goals.
