I’d say the most well-known is probably the International Red Cross/Red Crescent, which is well-known in pretty much every country on earth. Other well known charities in the US are the United Way, the Salvation Army, Goodwill.
But keep in mind that the most well-known charities are not necessarily the best ones. Charity Navigator (http://www.charitynavigator.org/ ) is a good website to look at if you want to see how good a charity is.

me help me I am poor but good looking all of you must help me or or I don’t know wot I will do I am getting kicked out of my apt every one hates me because I can’t work and they think I am lazy is life worth going on with ummm it is a hard evil world out there my only friends are the ones I make up, try playing cards with a bunch of imaginary friends oh sure they don’t leave a mess after a party but I am the one always buying the beer the lest they could do is chip in once in a while you’d think
