Do people think you are cheap if you mail those free Christmas cards from charitable organizations?
October 222009
Is it tacky or perceived as being cheap if you mail out those free Christmas cards to people? The ones that charitable organizations send out? I’m reluctant, but they sure would be handy and save me some money. What is proper?
Honestly, if people think that those are cheap, they’re jerks. It’s my real opinion.
Sending a card out to someone for the holidays is supposed to let them know that you’re thinking about them; it’s not intended to make it seem like you have money.
If people receive those cards and criticize someone for it, then they’re the ones at fault, not the sender.

just send them to people you don’t know, or care about.

Yes, it would be considered cheap. We have a relative that does that and we always laugh when we receive them. If you can’t afford to buy Christmas cards then don’t bother. Lots of people are not sending Christmas cards this year because of the expense. There are many more valuable things to spend money on.

Honestly speaking, I would perceive that as cheap, although it seems a practical and sensible thing to do.
If you want to save money, perhaps you can make the cards yourself.

It’s a yes and no because if you send them out some people think you are trying your best and some people think you are bad cause you used it but it all depends on what you say inside it.

NOT AT ALL! People seriously appriciate the thought and effort – especially in todays situation, its great to try and save money as much as possible so i certainly wouldn’t be bothered at all and i would be very grateful that someone had bothered to think of me and take the time to send me a christmas card!!!
P.S i got 150 chartity christmas cards for 50p and pride on telling everyone how much they cost and they think its good that i managed to save that much! also a lot of my friends dont even bother sending them!
(best answer…?)

If you want to be perceived as nice, add a personal note to each card. I’d never laugh if someone sent me a card they got free. Everyone I send cards to gets the same card because I buy them by the box. That’s being cheap (frugal), too, I guess. You can consider it sharing the word on the organization.
I don’t use the ones I get anymore because they are too religious for my taste. I pass them on or toss them. I certainly use the return address labels send by organizations as part of their attempt to get a donation.

Anyway, who cares? It’s supposed to be the thought. Just send cards to the people you know well enough to get one.

Don’t worry about it. It’s the thought that counts and anyone seriously angry with a gift sent from a friend has some issues. I would send them, its practical and still nice. Plus, think of the charity too, did you ever support them or would you? The organization obviously needs help, perhaps you can support them with the money you save from their cards? Its just a thought.
I say send away, its Christmas spirit and thought, not price!

Yeah, spend $4 for a cheesy Hallmark card…I don’t think so.
A lot of those charitable cards have a lot more class. Plus it promotes the charity.
If people think you are cheap, then they don’t deserve your Christmas card anyway.
