Our spirited protagonist inspires students with his determination and his mottos: “survival-of-the-fittest” and “strong body, clear mind”. It’s also a story about letting go of the past and dealing with personal issues through the power of yoga.

FARMAID 2009
Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp organized the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. Dave Matthews joined the Farm Aid Board of Directors in 2001. Farm Aid has raised nearly $35 million to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture. Through 1-800-FARM-AID and www.farmaid.org, Farm Aid staff refers farmers to an extensive resource network of family farm organizations across the country. The referrals support farmers seeking to make transitions to more sustainable and profitable farming practices, and also provide immediate and effective support services to farm families in crisis. Farm Aid makes grants to farm and rural service organizations to strengthen this network of resources for farmers.

We all see what’s happening with agriculture, what’s happening to our small towns. They are going out of business. That’s a direct result of the farm problem. We’re still doing Farm Aid because it is contributing. It’s doing a job.

I am interested in volunteering for nonprofit organizations. I don’t like the kind of work they tend to have volunteers do. However, I have noticed a lot of sites have out of date information or have things broken on their sites that I can easily fix. I’m assuming having someone who can update the site would be extremely useful for any organization. What are some of the best ways to volunteer to do this?

The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation was established by Paul and Lori Hogan to improve the lives of seniors. Since its inception in 2003, the foundation has awarded over $600,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations that specialize in programs for seniors.
