What is the best way to reach out to non-profit organizations to offer a business/fundraising opportunity?

March 12010

I just recently started a company that offers a lucrative fundraising opportunity to non-profits, but I have had trouble getting through to the organizations decision makers. Most organizations (small to medium size) assume it is something like a candy sale, but it is simply a cause-related marketing opportunity at no-cost to their members or their organization. Any help would be appreciated.

I would try to hook up with contacts — find events where they are (like trade show booths, events they sponsors, etc.) and mingle. Check their website for sponsorships / events, etc. Or ask for an issue of their newsletter (do this anyway and really get to know them).

Also go for JVs (joint ventures). Try to team up with others you know – -other businesses that are not in competition with you – who already have contacts in place.

Are you making an appointment? Face to face? Never try to sell your idea over the telephone…only the appointment.

Try going cold-calling to the organizations to whom you want to sell your product. Ask for the Coordinator of services and leave them a pamphlet with info on your service and then see what happens.
it’s hard work to get your business off the ground.
